KatrinaFox-9The first week of September I traveled to Cleveland for a conference that I attended for work. The conference was very impactful and I learned various strategies around content marketing for the company that I work for. In addition, I was able to explore the city of Cleveland. I flew in on Labor Day and met up with Colleen Ward as soon as I landed. Colleen is a very talented local photographer and founder of Pinwheel Creative who I met through a friend of a friend/sorority sister. Colleen brought Gracie along for the shoot,  who is also a photographer. They both live in Cleveland, so they were able to give me the lay of the land.

During our photo shoot I was able to get a great tour of the city. I saw where the Indians play, the Browns and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. You’ll see in my later posts that one look was photographed on the west bank of the flats. The flats are an industrial, residential and entertainment area in Cleveland that has been increasing in popularity for bars and restaurants. The spot that we went to was next to a bar on the water and we took photos on an old railroad track that is now covered in vines. The sun was perfectly setting behind me. I can’t wait to show you the photos. I loved how Colleen knew all of the great spots to showcase the great city she lives in. Plus she made me feel very comfortable when posing me, since that doesn’t always come natural to me. If you’re in the Cleveland area or traveling to Cleveland and want to take photos, whether they are for your family, yourself, engagement, anniversary, etc. I highly recommend reaching out to Colleen!

If you’re looking for an area to stay in, I stayed downtown because it was walking distance to the convention center and to multiple restaurants. I stayed at the Metropolitan at The 9 in downtown Cleveland, which was right next to a grocery store (see my post here about meal prepping for a work trip) and it had a gorgeous roof deck bar and an awesome restaurant downstairs. This was my first time staying at an Autograph Collection hotel and I absolutely loved the eclectic interior design. The room that I stayed in had a great layout with a comfy sitting area, a great view, and a soaking tub. One of the suggestions from Colleen and Gracie is a restaurant called REBol, which is in the middle of downtown at the plaza. It is like a Chipotle style restaurant where you can customize what is in your bowl, but they make it in the kitchen. Plus they have so many options. I picked a tuna poke bowl and it was delicious. The good thing is that I knew it wasn’t bad for me like most of the food options you get when eating out. I didn’t have much time to explore on my own, so I wasn’t able to try out the other places they recommended. I case you’re traveling to Cleveland, here are a couple other recommendations that they shared:

Urban Farmer – best new steak restaurant

Barrio – great place for tacos

Great Lakes – they’re favorite brewery that has been around for a while and has a dark speakeasy feel downstairs and a patio with lights that also has a wine bar

Phoenix – cute coffee shop in the Ohio City area

Cleveland Clothing Company – fun store for t-shirts, wine glasses and other knick knacks

Keep an eye out for more photos from my trip!
