I bet it seems pretty silly to put on a full face of makeup before going to a pool party, but I enjoying being done up for any party so I’m not going to let a little water and heat get in the way. Plus, if I’m getting in front of people in a revealing swimsuit having makeup on will help me to feel more confident in front of others. I’ve outlined my favorite beauty products below for your review. Make sure you always start by putting sunscreen all over your body before getting to the pool and especially using a face sunscreen under your makeup. My favorites are by Dermalogica and I use Pure Light SPF 50 everyday or Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 if I know I’m definitely going to be in direct sunlight.
Don’t forget about your hair and accessories! Think about a hairstyle that will help you to keep your hair out of your face and in a way that will keep you cool too. I tend to go towards doing a braid. If my hair on the bottoms gets wet, it’s okay because it will dry straight. If you think you’ll go all the way under, then I suggest sticking to a basic braid or a basic hairstyle that doesn’t involve a ton of bobby pins or hair ties. It’s never fun taking those out of wet hair!
As for accessories, a pair of cute earrings go a long way. Make sure they’re a pair that you don’t care if they get wet or not. If you’d prefer to be shaded from the sun, invest in a hat and always bring a pair of sunglasses.
For my makeup, I always do my eyes even though I wear sunglasses most of the time. I found that the time I didn’t do my eyes, was the time that I stuck to a shaded area and didn’t wear sunglasses at all. Even if I only wear a waterproof eyeliner and mascara, and skip the eyeshadow, I find that is the one thing that definitely stays on without smudging till the end of the party. I prefer Urban Decay Perversion Volumizing Waterproof Mascara and Perversion Waterproof Fine-Point Eye Pen.
Although we already used sunscreen for our face, I still like to use a CC Cream that has SPF. I prefer Chanel with SPF 30. The one I use actually isn’t waterproof although it stays on really well. I have used the Water Blend Foundation by Makeup Forever and that stayed on while I was actually swimming. On top of the foundation, I use It Cosmetics Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer.
Tarte is my favorite for long lasting blush and bronzer while doing anything that I would need to be sweat proof, waterproof or smudge proof. I like the color Unstoppable in their Amazonian clay 12-hour blush because it’s pretty natural looking. Same thing with Park Ave Princess Amazonian clay waterproof bronzer.
As for the lips, I love wearing a bold color to a pool party as long as it is a liquid lipstick or a lip stain that doesn’t bleed or smear. Since your eyes are mostly covered, it’s such a great accent to your look to have a pop of color. Kylie Cosmetics lip kits work really well and my go-to bright color is the bright purple June Bug lip color. Another favorite of mine is Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bachelorette, which is a deep and bold magenta. Here I went with a classic red, Iluvsarahii X Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Arriba!.
After finishing my pool party makeup and before leaving the house, I always spray Urban Decay All Nighter long lasting makeup setting spray on my face. They have a “Summer Solstice” scent that they came out with this summer that is lightweight, allows for up to 16-hour wear, and uses temperature control technology, so it’s literally made for pool parties! In my pool bag, I will always bring the Oil Absorbing Sheets with you I can blot any sweat or grease throughout the day or after the pool if we decide to go somewhere else.

I just love all your makeup tips. I’ve been wanting a more waterproof makeup so I’m checking that out. You look so gorgeous!! I need Lauren to do my hair everyday for life lol 😂
Thanks so much! I feel like summer is the perfect time to experiment with water proof makeup. Seriously… if only our hair was “Lauren ready” everyday LOL!
Your hair is so pretty! Love that braid
