We all know that fashion is cyclical. It comes back in waves and certain elements of a fashion era will resurface in a new way later in life. That is one of my loves of fashion is that what is once old could become new again just like the one-piece swimsuit. I remember at a much younger age when one-pieces were very popular, then they weren’t and the itty bitty bikini was all the rage. Now, we’re seeing one-piece swimsuits in all shapes and sizes back on the rack and have been for a few years now.

I almost think that one-piece swimsuits can be more difficult to shop for than a two-piece swimsuit. The reason is because our torsos aren’t all made equally. Some are longer or shorter than others. Some people have wider or more narrow rib cages. Chest, stomach, and hips all come into play too. For me, I have a shorter torso so I need a swimsuit that can be adjusted at the neck. I also love plunging necklines on one-pieces because I feel as though it gives the illusion of a longer torso. Other things I consider are the leg openings, the back details and is it family friendly. The swimsuit I’m wearing in this blog post is not family friendly. The neckline is so low that I have to be careful when moving around!

While black swimsuits are always the most flattering, I love a bright color or a fun print too. If you haven’t explored a one-piece swimsuit, I definitely recommend heading to Nordstrom, Macy’s or Target to try on a few different styles. If you don’t want to commit to an expense brand, you can always test out a low price point style. Target is a great budget friendly store for swimwear, but some of my favorite designer brands are Vitamin A (the snake skin reversible suit in this post, which is also the first suit in my LIKEtoKNOW.IT slide below) and Becca (the purple ruffle suit below), which was purchased from Nordstrom.
