Recently I threw a Galentines Day party (read the recap here) and while I was planning I came across this “Love Potion” linen spray recipe. It was the perfect addition to the DIY Sugar Scrub that we also made and the DIY Bath Bombs that we received as take home gifts. The three items create the perfect night… a bubble bath with a moisturizing scrub topped off with a fresh and floral bedtime scent. The best part is that it’s all natural, gluten free, paraben free, and it won’t harm the fabric of your pillow case, sheets or pj’s.

Why Use a Linen Spray?

The most basic reason to use a linen spray is as an air freshener. Spraying it on sheets or your pillow is so you can get the benefits of the aroma without actually putting it on your own skin. Same thing goes for spraying on your pj’s. This Love Potion recipe is perfect for creating a romantic, yet relaxing atmosphere for you and your significant other. Keep reading to find out exactly why these specific oils make the perfect Love Potion.

Why Use Orange, Ylang Ylang + Cypress?

The three essential oils that make up the “Love Potion” are Orange, Ylang Ylang, and Cypress. They all have very specific benefits and uses that make up the perfect Love Potion recipe all together.

Orange: We all know what oranges smell like, so it’s no surprise that the essential oil has a sweet, fruity, citrus and uplifting aroma. This scent helps to clear the mind while also eliminating any unwanted odors. In addition to the linen spray, Orange can be diffused to add a touch of warmth to your space any time of year and massaged into skin for an energizing aroma.

Ylang Ylang: This oil comes from flowers of trees grown in Ecuador and Madagascar. The scent has a sweet, warm, floral, tropical and romantic aroma. It also has moisturizing properties that make it a key ingredient in many luxury skin and hair products. Using this oil can keep romance alive in your bedroom, create a calming environment, and can fill your home with feelings of safety and comfort.

Cypress: This oil is the perfect balance to the other sweeter scents because it has a fresh, clean, spicy, herbaceous and masculine aroma that can promote a sense of security and grounding. I found an article featuring eight benefits of using this oil, click here to read, and the main two that caught my eye in terms of this spray is that (1) it can act as a natural deodorant due to it’s antibacterial properties preventing bacterial growth and body odor, and (2) relieves anxiety because of its sedative effects. Cypress induces a calm and relaxed feeling when used aromatically or topically, but also it is energizing, and it stimulates feelings of happiness and ease.

Six Simple Ingredients:

Spray Bottle (1 ounce ): I tend to make smaller recipes initially to test it out and to make sure I love it before making a larger recipe. I found these frosted bottles on Amazon, click here for the link. These bottles came with a funnel, which is definitely needed when pouring all of the contents into the bottle.

Distilled Water: This can be purchased from anywhere. I picked mine up from Fry’s.

Witch Hazel: I found an unscented, alcohol-free witch hazel by Thayers from Amazon, click here for the link. If you’re unfamiliar with the benefits of witch hazel, I suggest reading this linked article. Generally speaking, it’s great for inflammation and neutralizing free radicals among other things. *The recipe is pretty loose on how much water and witch hazel to use. I use a splash of witch hazel and fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water so technically I use more water than witch hazel.

Essential Oils (Orange, Ylang Ylang, Cypress): I purchase all my essential oils from Young Living because I love their Seed to Seal policy, which allows me to trust that they are using ethical standards when harvesting the oils and I know that what I’m getting is real and clean instead of synthetic oils that other companies sell.
