Oh Happy Day!! The Diane von Furstenberg boutique has opened in Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. Arizona fashionistas, we can all jump for joy!

IMG_5562IMG_5563Before Tuesday, July 1st, I got my DVF fix at Barneys or Nordstrom, but like every department store there were some specialty items that were missing. The DVF boutique is fairly large in size (similar to the Kate Spade store) and has a great assortment of DVF’s collections. Located in the east wing of the mall on the lower level, between Dillard’s and Macy’s. It is along side other great designers like Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Kate Spade and BCBG to name a few.

Whether you want a cocktail dress for an upcoming wedding or separates to mix and match for the office, DVF’s pieces are beautifully constructed and made for longevity in style and wear. Fresh out of college and living in NYC, I fell in love with DVF at a sample sale. I was able to skimp on groceries that week and pick up a few pieces to rotate into my career wardrobe. Five+ years later I look forward to wearing my DVF pieces and love mixing in newer purchases to freshen up the look. Above is one of my first DVF pieces, the white ponte-knit wrap skirt. The black silk top is a newer DVF piece that is slightly cropped and has a lace net butterfly design in the middle. I love tucking in the front but letting the back loose to show it’s flowy construction and to keep from looking too formal.

257537S08Diane von Fursenberg is an inspiration to all female entrepreneurs for introducing something different to the world and living by her mother’s advice of “fear is not an option”. In 1974, she introduced the first jersey wrap dress and by 1976 she was on the cover of Newsweek Magazine as the “most marketable woman since Coco Chanel”. Wearing her pieces reminds me of her story and motivates me to live fearlessly.

A few must-have’s from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection (for sale at the boutique currently) are maxis, bright dresses, knit skirts, structured shorts and white pumps. I am loving the long ‘fine lines‘ on the Jordan silk maxi dress. This style and design gives length to any body style. If you’re not comfortable in the flowy style that’s ok, this dress is not for you. Do not belt the dress as it will do more harm than good. The belt will chop up the look and prevent the style from adding length. Try the brightly colored Jillian strap detail silk dress to show off a little leg and decolletage instead. This dress is perfect for a summer or fall wedding. Another item that is perfect for a wedding or even the office is the Gemma pleated full skirt. It’s on trend for this season’s favorite full skirt style, but it is slightly shorter than some of the styles that I’ve seen. This is a great way to acclimate to the trend and see if it’s for you. Lastly, my favorite short this summer is the structured printed short, like the Napoli lace short. You can dress it down with a knit tank and sandals or you can dress it up with a silk blouse, long necklace and wedges. Make sure to take advantage of white shoes during the summer season. Nothing says fashionista like a pair of white iguana embossed pumps. DVF_PF14_LOOK_20DVF_PF14_LOOK_16S826301L14COOPBcanvas2
