Now that spring training is in town, Aaron and I have been enjoying Cubs games in our own backyard. It’s so fun to have the World Series champions in town! And, it’s allowing us to reminisce about our time in Chicago for the World Series, which eventually leads into how Georgina joined the Fox family.

Georgina is my Gucci purse and wallet shown above. She is my “World Series” purse – wahoo #gocubs! This sounds weird, so let me explain. Back in August 2016, Aaron purchased airfare and booked hotels in Chicago as soon as the World Series home/away schedule was announced. He was so sure of the Cubs going all the way that we planned for vacation time from work and told a select few of our friends and family about our travel plans. Other than that we couldn’t talk about it for superstitious reasons of course. The beauty of this trip was that we could cancel our Southwest airlines tickets and get a flight credit, which we know we’d use later, and we booked at a hotel that allowed cancellations and made sure to book it before the rates went up for the weekend. So, there really was no risk in booking our travel early!

When the Cubs actually made it to the World Series and it came time for our trip, we planned to be there from Friday to Monday. However, I decided to fly back early on Sunday so that I didn’t miss work on Monday. Aaron of course was going to stay the entire time with his friends who traveled from Arizona and my cousins who live in Chicago. We watched the games in bars in the city and enjoyed being a part of the excitement in Wrigleyville even if we were on the outside of the stadium. Friday’s game the Cubs lost, Saturday’s game the Cubs lost, so on Sunday the tickets immediately dropped 75% in price. I left for the airport and as I was boarding my flight my cousin texted me saying that she was going to the World Series with her husband, Aaron and Aaron’s friends, which was the first I had heard about Aaron’s plans. That’s another story for another time! Of course I was super happy for my family and friends, but also feeling pretty bummed that I couldn’t join in on the fun.

At this point, Aaron and I had put aside some money that we saved up and agreed that it would be ours to do whatever we want to do with it. Spend it on something that we wouldn’t usually do or purchase something that we really want, but always talk ourselves out of purchasing. In the back of my mind I knew I needed to pay someone to redo my website and/or purchase a new computer so that I can finally have Photoshop! But, when Aaron decided to spend his on a World Series ticket and new golf clubs, I knew I would finally treat myself to a new designer handbag and wallet. I had been using the same Coach hangbag for almost five years. And although I loved that green and gold purse, the zippers were broken, the pockets were unstitched and the leather was worn.

After thinking about this the whole flight home from Chicago, I went straight to Nordstrom and began my research. I have always been a huge fan of the designer Chloe. It started when I discovered the brand in High School and it intensified when I lived in NYC and would find myself casually trying on every Chloe purse at Bloomingdale’s and vowing that my first born would be named Chloe. I found a few styles, but thought that maybe I’m missing the selection that a large department store would have in a large city, so I waited almost a week until Aaron and I were in Boston and we shopped till we dropped. I know that wasn’t his initial idea of how we’d spend our time in Boston, but I figured their selection would be great between the two malls that are conjoining downtown.

We first went to Barney’s and I talked myself out of every Chloe bag I found. I needed an everyday purse that can fit my everyday things – iPad, wallet, phone, keys, lipstick bag, and a small emergency kit. Chloe was a tad bit too small. Next, I found the Givenchy Pandora bag in gray leather. This bag is so cool and so unique and so comfortable. It fits everything I need, and is a nontraditional everyday bag that would elevate my everyday style. However, it was the most expensive bag out of the ones I was looking at and I was worried about my jeans rubbing onto the bag and staining it. Leaving Barney’s we went to Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors and Saks. Saks had the same Chloe and Givenchy bags that were at Barneys, but a Gucci bag caught my eye. The strap was a short gold chain, and it did not have a zipper closure, so in the end it was not the right fit for me.

Devastated from not finding the perfect fit and bummed that I’m not the type of person to just settle on a purse no matter the price tag. Plus I was extremely tired, thirsty and hungry, so we decided to leave the mall. We went to Walgreens to stock up on water for the hotel room and standing in line I pulled up the Gucci website to see if there are any other options similar to that purse I liked at Saks. I found another option! Slightly smaller, less expensive, has a long strap and a short strap, and a zipper closure! I ran back across the street to the mall (Aaron limped slowly behind me – poor guy!) and found Georgina! I love the thick durable and shiny leather. The embossed G’s and tassel give the perfect amount of detail. Plus, the light yellow gold is so minimal and matches everything. As the sales associate shared the amount of the purse, I was also able to afford the matching wallet whereas with the Givenchy or the Chloe hand bags I would have spent more with just the bag then I did with the Gucci bag and wallet. I’m so happy with the classic black handbag. As long as I take good care of it, it will last a lifetime. It will age beautifully and will be a great piece to pass down to my daughter, Chloe or maybe now I will need to rethink her name 😉
