I am extremely excited to be back on the blog after four long months, and what better way to do it than to talk about one of my favorite humans, Jay Olson of The Bespoke Salon. Instagram says it was 25 weeks ago that I saw him last (I know, I can’t believe I’ve gone this long without getting my hair colored either). Although you’ve seen my hair in photos since he colored it last, I’m really excited to tell you a little bit about him and show you some of the work he does.
When I first met Jay, I was working at G Star RAW in 2010 and he came into the store with one of his clients. I was transitioning from platinum blonde (those were the days) to a slightly darker blonde ombre color. The client that Jay was with told me about these ombre hair presentations that Jay would do to show his clients how their color would look after he did it. Ombre was starting to pick up as a coloring process and some people weren’t sure what to think yet. Anyway, it seemed interesting, so I took his card, put it in my desk drawer at my parents house, and continued going to my current hair stylist for about 9 more months. She was great at creating blonde, but I started craving color in my life. I decided to dye my hair a fiery red color and after two processes with her it still wasn’t cutting it. I remembered meeting Jay’s client and figured what do I have to loose — I’m sure you can understand my hesitation in going to a new hair stylist after 2 loyal years with someone I felt comfortable with — I called my mom, told her roughly where the business card was in my old desk and successfully made an appointment. Since then he’s taken my hair from fiery red, reddish/brown, strawberry blonde, and now to blonde balayage over the past four years. He’s also went from working at Inizio Salon to owning his own salon, Bespoke Salon, and touring the country showing people his impressive artistry. It’s exciting to hear about what new skills he’s acquired and to see them come to life.

Thank you Jay for keeping my hair fresh and for keeping me entertained while I’m in your chair! Come to think of it, I should probably schedule my next appointment 🙂
