Recently I was asked by a friend to join The Commit Campaign in their fight to reduce suicide rates. I was so thankful to join this amazing group of women who create this program as a way to educate others about mental health. Mental illness runs in my family and over the years communication has improved, however it’s never been a topic that was openly discussed. I hope that through the Commit Campaign, others can find comfort in knowing that they are not alone. Having a friend die from suicide is something that I will always carry with me. I wish she had the resources and support system that are available today, and I wish I could have been there for her to help get through that difficult time in her life. What I can help with now is to spread the word about this organization and invite you to the 3rd annual fall fashion show to support the Commit Campaign. I hope you will join me in this campaign. I feel honored to walk the runway with survivors of suicide loss and other supporters in my commitment to change the stigma.

The Commit Campaign is a photo-based movement breaking the stigma associated with mental health and mental illness to ultimately reduce the nation’s suicide rate.

Members of The Commit Campaign strive to create a community to speak freely, without stigma on these topics. The Campaign educates through social media platforms, community networks and events with the intent to change how our society currently talks about and views about suicide. Through educational materials, personal stories of those who are survivors of suicide loss and mental illness a community has been created that can heal and hope together for a brighter future for those that live with a mental illness and also those that have experience the stigma firsthand.

The topics of mental illness and mental health are often stigmatized in many ways throughout our society’s common conversation. The Commit Campaign aims to educate the community about certain phrases and what replacements to use with the hopes to communicate about these topics in a healthier manner.

Individuals pledge to the campaign based on a list of different ‘commit’ments and often share their story of experiencing the stigma of mental illness, mental health or suicide along with their post.
