Living in Arizona you need to know how to dress for warm weather, especially since it’s nine months out of the year. My favorite thing about summer is the footwear. This is the time of the year where your footwear can be any color or any pattern, and somehow it just works.

IMG_5475Hands down the best summer sandal designer is Sam Edelman.

I love how he can mix turquoise stones with animal print to spice up your outfit. You can choose to match your sandals to your outfit or wear as a complete stand-out statement piece. The sandals below can be found for purchase here.

Wear these with shorts, rolled jeans, long or short skirts and dresses. In warm weather climates, it’s acceptable to wear these from February (in some cases, like Culinary Festival or the Phoenix Open) all the way to early November (College Homecoming). The featured shirt is a turquoise semi-crop top with a gold back zipper by Trina Turk, for purchase here. The semi-crop is a great alternative to showing too much midriff by following the ever popular crop-top trend. With the best year round accessory, a Michele watch (sold here).

IMG_5483My all time favorite Sam Edelman sandal is called Ginger. I have had these gunmetal, back zipper, flats since 2010. I found them on clearance at Bloomingdales and am so happy that I made that $20 investment all these years ago. I wore them around NYC that entire weekend without my feet hurting once. Four years later they are still in style, still holding up, and are still a staple in my wardrobe. I will be in tears the day that I have to put these to rest.

IMG_5485IMG_5471An all time favorite of every girl is the shoe brand and designer Steve Madden.

Steve Madden has been around as long as I can remember. He’s been a good friend to me, always there when I need cheering up, he stands me up when I’ve had too much to drink and have danced for way too long, and most importantly he tells me I look amazing and sexy no matter how I might feel otherwise. Whether you opt for a pair of heeled sandals, wedges or flats, you can never go wrong. To the left is a retired style, but the attributes are definitely in the Steve Madden mix: rope detail, snake skin, 5 inch wedge, criss cross and around the ankle clasp. Missed out? Don’t worry, wedges available here.

Wear these wedges or ones similar with an all white outfit. My favorite for summer IMG_5499is a white sleeveless blouse on white jeans. If you’re not comfortable in white-on-white, try a heather grey on grey or light blue jeans. It still gives the clean look without having to worry about bleaching your clothes after each wear. The featured top is a jersey heather grey body, loose fitting top with crepe silk off-white sleeves by Rebecca Taylor, for purchase here. Great summer top without showing too much skin. The loose fit allows you to breath in such hot weather. Great over jeans or tucked into the front of your cut off or rolled shorts. photo 1(1)Best summer accessory, a Kendra Scott statement necklace like the Rebecca statement clear iridescent necklace shown above and to the right. For more on Kendra Scott jewelry please come back for my post about the Color Bar party.

My latest Steve Madden discovery are these cute flat gold sandals called Scoorpin. I love the feminine details of the ankle strap and how it can dress up any summer dress without killing my feet in heels. The black and neutral colors are currently 50% off at Nordstrom. Regular price they are still very inexpensive for Steve Madden since they are a special style for BP., which means you can’t find them on the Steve Madden site.

A few other items for summer…

IMG_5489Steve_Madden_Sparta_Black_lg1. Caged Sandals: These Sweet Life by Dolce Vita sandals (left) are a inexpensive add to your 2014 summer wardrobe, for purchase here. Caged sandals are very fun for now, but who knows how long they’ll last. Don’t spend too much money on an expensive pair. Experiment with some of the less expensive brands for a injection of now fashion to your wardrobe. My all time favorite gladiator sandal is the Steve Madden Sparta sandal. Warning, it is not one fits all calves. I have yet to find my calf match.

2. A nice watch goes with every outfit, but dare to be a rebel and go against the norm…. whether it’s a twist on the classic silver Michele watch with a diamond encrusted square face and roman numerals (sold here). Or a round faced, gold on gold Marc Jacobs watch  –  dare to be different.

IMG_54873. Protect your beautiful eyes with some retro shades. Again, if you’re worried about the style being only a mire trend of the ’14’s, test out the style with a less expensive version. But do not – I repeat do not – skimp on the UVA and UVB protection. Do not trust just any street corner that’s selling the latest styles of Dior and Gucci’s. Try Spitfire sunglasses (for purchase here) or my favorite, Ray-Bans. Ray-Bans are always in style, but never expensive. Plus I’ve had my black/gold Clubmasters for over 5 years and my tortoise shell Dylans for long enough that they’ve stopped making them in that color. My new summer obsession are the Aviator flash lenses in any color. These are a must!

Until next time… don’t let anyone dull your sparkle,
