Since August 1st, 2016 I’ve been making an effort to focus on my health by following recipes and meal planning that is laid out in the book, Extreme Transformation by Chris Powell and Heidi Powell. In the past couple months it’s helped me to get back to a daily routine and to be mindful of what I’m eating and how I’m exercising. I’m on a better routine with getting 7-8 hours of sleep regularly. When my alarm goes off (anytime between 4:30am – 6am) I wake-up immediately instead of snoozing hours past my scheduled workout. I don’t have the sugar crash in the afternoon or the brain fog in the morning, but I will say that by the end of the second “low-carb” day I can get a little loopy. If you’re not sure what I mean by “low-carb” day, check out my blog post titled, Phase I: Extreme Transformation.

I finished Phase III on Saturday, October 1st, 2016, which means that it was the third time that I did the Extreme Transformation 21 day cycle. Two months after initially starting the program and I am a total of 13 pounds lighter and 15 inches smaller. Since Phase II I lost 3 pounds, a pound a week, and 3.75 inches, which was more than double the amount of inches lost in Phase II. I’m guessing it’s because I’m actually gaining some muscle woot!

I found that Phase I was focus on familiarizing myself with the actual program, creating a routine with meal prep and working out, and trying new recipes to find what I like. In Phase II, I had to find a balance between my healthy lifestyle and traveling for work. During Phase III, I focused on getting together with friends while working out. This is one of my favorite activities to do with friends, especially now that Arizona weather is cooling down. During the week I prefer to workout anytime between 5am – 6:30am, depending on my work day. During the weekends, it’s hard to stay motivated when you’re tired from the week and have many social activities going on. Instead of doing a happy hour or brunch, I tend to suggest doing something active.

Hiking is perfect to do with a friend who you haven’t seen for a while or would like to spend the time catching up and being able to talk to while working out. It’s also great if you want to include your four-legged friends too. Depending on your fitness likes and your friends fitness likes, I’ve found that I have different friends for different workouts. Some of my friends love spin while others love OrangeTheory Fitness. Another friend was going through yoga teacher training, so I hosted a Yoga and Wine party in my backyard. She taught the class for practice and then we all enjoyed healthy apps and wine afterwards.

My good friend, Ansley Jones, who introduced me to Extreme Transformation is a great person to try new workouts with. She started her fitness journey over a year ago and has been enjoying new and different workouts. It’s great because I was able to go to her gym with her as a free trial and she was able to come to my gym with me as a free trial. Today we went to a Yoga Sculpt class at CorePower Yoga in Old Town Scottsdale. The yoga studio in Old Town opened on Friday, October 14th, 2016 and they are doing a free week of classes as a way for the community to try out their specialized form of yoga. The photos shown in this blog post are actually from CorePower Yoga. You’ll notice that some of the photos show yogis holding weights, which is what you do in Yoga Sculpt. The class is heated to 90-95 degrees and they incorporate muscle toning exercises with 3, 5, 8 or 10 pound weights. They do higher repetitions with lighter weights, which also gets your heart rate going. A form of cardio and ab exercises are also included. CorePower has four different classes; Sculpt, which I’ve already described, Yoga 1 for beginners, Yoga 2 for intermediate yogis and Hot Power Fusion which includes humidity in the room as well as heat. It feels like a tropical rain forest by the end of class!
