Thank you so much for your continued support!

It’s almost been three months since I started my Extreme Transformation journey. On October 22nd I completed my fourth phase, which is a 21 day cycle. It doesn’t change much from phase to phase, but it’s easier to track my progress in weeks and phases based on the meal plans that I use. I have a little over one phase left and four pounds to go to reach my goal by November 23rd!

I’ve always enjoyed eating healthy and exercising. Of course there are those days when you don’t feel like going to the gym or you don’t feel like cooking, but since I started this journey in August I’ve kept myself motivated and excited about putting in the work. I find this motivation from the way I feel. I have more energy, my stomach doesn’t hurt like it usually does when I eat poorly, and my brain is clear and alert even without caffeine. Also, the motivation is coming from the way my body is changing. I actually feel lighter, I look like what I consider to be my “normal” self, and my clothes aren’t uncomfortable from being too tight. Most importantly, this motivation is coming from my excitement to try new things, like healthy recipes that actually taste good (I swear, they exist) and a variety of different ways to exercise.

My entire life I’ve gone through fitness phases. I love being outdoors and hiking, so there is a phase that repeats every year during the fall, winter and spring months where I hike every opportunity I get, but once the over 90 degree weather hits in the summer I stop exercising. I’ve worked with personal trainers at gyms, and created my own weight lifting programs. I’ve joined Beachbody fitness groups and religiously done work out videos at home at the same time every day. I’ve also fallen in love with different gyms around the Valley like OrangeTheory Fitness and StudioMIXX, which are both great workouts and I thought I would be a member forever. I would see great results with every fitness plan I created for myself (usually if you’re active and mindful of what you’re eating, you’ll see results depending on your fitness goals.) Each fitness phase would end the same way. I either would get burnt out from the exercises, bored of the workouts because it’s the same thing every day, or I financially couldn’t afford it. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy each of these forms of fitness, but I probably would enjoy them more if I was able to switch it up once in a while.

dsc_3346dsc_3341dsc_3351I’m so thankful for my friend, Katharine Longo, for introducing me to ClassPass. I had heard of it before and never thought much of it. It wasn’t until she shared a promotion  with me that they were doing around the 4th of July for four free classes. I was skeptical because I thought how are these people really losing weight if they keep switching their workout routine? Ironically at the time I noticed that I was experiencing burn out from over training at OrangeTheory Fitness and not giving my body proper rest. In fact, my body was so tired from the workouts that I completely lost sight of my eating plan and I was not having any success with losing weight or toning up. Plus, I missed yoga and spinning, but to have memberships at three different studios would cost hundreds of dollars.

How does it work? ClassPass is a company that recruits local fitness studios and gyms in your area to sign up with ClassPass and offer their classes to people like me who crave a variety in their daily workouts. I pay for the unlimited package, which is $79 a month (much cheaper than any studio I’ve ever been a member of.) With the unlimited package I can go to as many studios that are affiliated with ClassPass. I can also travel and go to ClassPass studios in other states and cities. The catch is that you cannot go to one studio more than four times during your month cycle. Because of this catch it forces you to try new fitness studios in your area and get out of your comfort zone. Of course I have found my favorites and I get sad when I use up all of my classes for the month, but this prevents me from getting bored of these workouts. Plus, I have found so many great studios and fun workout classes that I would never have known about before. I’ve even created a great schedule that works for me. Monday through Wednesday I focus on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workouts, boot camps, or weight training. On Thursday I typically do a Barre workout that is lower impact to give my body a rest, but also to lengthen my muscles and work my muscles deeper with lower weight and higher reps. Fridays, I go to a Yoga Flow class that is always different and allows me to connect with my mind and body on a spiritual level while also challenging myself in different poses. Saturdays I reserve for a workout with a friend like a class we both want to try or a hike. Sundays is usually my day of rest. I don’t take a spin class weekly, but I’ll try to add it in every couple of weeks. I’ve also joined a separate yoga studio that I do as a second workout if I’m feeling up to it (more about CorePower Yoga here.)

If you are like me and need variety in your life, I highly suggest testing out ClassPass. You download an app and book your classes on your phone. If you’re skeptical like I was, sign up for your first month and get $30 off with my referral code. That way you can see if there are at least four studios in your neck of the woods that you could see yourself going to at least once a week. If so, then it might be the most cost effective fitness plan for you to see lasting results.
