Another Extreme Transformation phase just flew by! Another 21 days and 3.2 pounds have passed me by. I’m only one week away from my Cabo Thanksgiving trip and only one week away from hitting my goal weight. I still have 1.4 pounds to go! Thank you, fit fam, for being so supportive during my health journey of getting back in the gym and the kitchen. So far, it’s going great. It’s been over three months and I’m definitely not bored with my workouts or with the recipes from the Extreme Transformation book by Chris and Heidi Powell.

dsc_3396This past phase I actually had two three-day vacations back to back. One was a trip to Chicago for the World Series and the other was a trip to Boston to tag along with Aaron on one of his work trips. I’ve talked about how I continue to eat healthy and work out during work trips (read more here) and vacations aren’t any different. The good thing is that a vacation usually falls on my cheat day, so I can indulge a bit on eating out. Sometimes the hardest part is working out while on vacation. Something that keeps me motivated and looking forward to my workouts is when I can do a workout that I can’t get at home.

Luckily, I was able to go to a SoulCycle spin class while I was in Chicago and in Boston. I love spinning and I especially love SoulCycle classes. Currently they’re only offered in big cities around the US, so I try to take a class whenever I’m traveling and there’s one nearby. It’s the best spin workout I’ve ever had. The music and the instructors make the class. You literally feel the music in your soul and somehow your legs and your body match the rhythm. The class incorporates light weights and high reps so that you leave with a full body workout and you’re not just working your legs. The instructors guide you in side-to-side and front-to-back movements on your bike, so you literally leave with sore abs, something I never realized I could get from a spin class.

Don’t be shy – if you don’t have a friend to go with you, go to a class by yourself. You never know who you might meet. My first class was in Chicago and I went by myself. As strange as it sounds it was an emotional experience. The whole class was packed and it was so cool to see everyone moving together as one. I was so happy that the second time I took a class in Chicago I was able to share that experience with my cousin Sara. My third time was solo in Boston. Thankfully I was able to walk from my hotel room and enjoy the cool air. Afterwards, I like to buy a t-shirt from the different studios and as I was shopping, somehow I ended up taking a selfie with the SoulCycle CEO Melanie Anya and the SoulCycle Beacon Hill team. I didn’t realize who anyone was at the time, but I could tell that they were all really great people.

If spinning isn’t your thing that’s ok! Depending on where you’re traveling to, you can always explore local adventures. While in Hawaii last year, there were so many waterfall hikes and beach run opportunities. With that gorgeous view, you don’t even know you’re burning calories. If you’re visiting Arizona, I suggest going for a hike at any of the many amazing trails here. If it’s a city vacation, you can always rent bikes and ride around for the day to shops, restaurants, etc. If there’s water nearby, try paddle boarding, kayaking or surfing. If you prefer to work out inside, you can always sign up for ClassPass which allows you to workout at various studios around the nation. Another option is enrolling in a Black Tag Membership at CorePower Yoga, which has studios throughout the US and allows you to work out at any studio.
