Last weekend I participated in the FIT4MOM of Phoenix & Scottsdale Stroller Strides free event at Desert Ridge Marketplace with my four favorite ladies. The good news is that I was able to spend sometime with these adorable baby girls and I got a really good workout. Plus I didn’t feel out of place since I wasn’t the only one there without a stroller.

We started the morning as one large group before we broke into an advanced class and low-impact class. Ansley, Peighton and I decided to do the low-impact class, which end up being an all-levels class. The instructor offered multiple examples of each exercise, usually three options, depending on your fitness level. As soon as the workout started I was thinking to myself that if this is the “easier” class, I couldn’t imagine what the advanced class was doing, but that was probably because I was challenging myself with the harder options. The exercises traveled all around Desert Ridge Marketplace, which was great because we were able to use different building structures to our advantage, like railings for leg lifts, a wall in the shade for sit squats and benches for tricep dips. I was never bored since the scenery kept changing and the exercises. We did everything from walking lunges (to get to the next spot – I believe the advanced class would jog), squats, burpees, skater jumps, jumping jacks, push ups, calf raises, and everything in between. I realized that we never actually used the strollers for the workout, but it did come in handy to put your purse and water bottle in when moving from location to location.

I love that the workouts are outdoors too. There are multiple locations that they go to around the Phoenix and Scottsdale area. During the summer they have teamed up with some local gyms to get out of the heat. FIT4MOM of Phoenix & Scottsdale offers classes for all stages of motherhood. They have prenatal fitness called FIT4BABY (there were multiple pregnant women in my workout class, which blew me away by all that they were doing with carry the extra weight of a little human), stroller based fitness classes called Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre, and small group personal training for moms of all ages and stages called Body Back.

Since I enjoyed the workout so much, I wanted to share it with you all. I am giving away one week free to everyone who comments on this blog post, my Instagram, Facebook or Twitter until my free week cards run out!

Keep reading for more Q&A with the Franchise Owner Amy Hinderer Feltus:

  1. How did you get involved with FIT4MOM?

When I was a first time mom, I really struggled with getting out of the house, making mom friends etc. I read about Stroller Strides in a magazine and decided to try a class. From day 1, I was hooked. I was completely surprised by how great of a workout it was, and even better, all the great moms there. They quickly became my village. I became an instructor 2 years later, and then purchased the franchise in year 5 of my involvement.

  1. How is this different than joining a regular gym or a fitness studio?

We offer you the great workouts that those places do, but we let you bring your kids with for our stroller based programs, Stroller Strides and Stroller Barre. But our aim is not limited to fitness. At FIT4MOM our goal is to help moms gain strength in fitness, motherhood and life. We provide play dates after class for the kids. We do monthly moms nights out. We have a private Facebook group where we have conversations about all subjects! We’re your trainers, your friends and your village of other moms, all in one. We want all moms to gain the strength they need for motherhood, and that is about more than exercise.

  1. There are some classes where you can bring your kids with you in a stroller, is this based on specific age groups?

If your child will stay strapped in the stroller, s/he is welcome! There is no age limit. You will frequently see me at Stroller Strides or Stroller Barre with my 5 and 3 year olds in tow. But if your children have moved past that stage, we offer Body Back, our mom only boot camp style workout, which features high intensity interval training workouts, nutritional support and more.

  1. If you’re not a mom, but want a good workout would you suggest FIT4MOM? Or if you want to work out with a friend that is a mom, would you be able to join her in these workouts, especially the stroller workout?

While we market to moms, we welcome all women to our classes. We have had friends join with friends before, just as you describe. We’ve also had nannies share memberships with moms, or sisters, one who is a mom, one who isn’t, join. We’re very flexible. Additionally, you are not required to be a mom to take our Body Back classes. Regardless of whether you’ve been pregnant, sometimes you need to take charge and work on your physical goals, and we offer that opportunity to all women if they are interested.
