Barre3 is a great workout for the person who isn’t looking to do heavy weight lifting, but wants something with a little more movement than a typical yoga and meditation class. Or maybe you currently do heavy weight lifting or yoga/meditation and you want something slightly different to mix it up. Another great reason to try Barre3 is if you need a low impact workout that isn’t hard on your joints. Barre3 always offers multiple exercises for different experience levels and adds on layers to each movement so that you can choose how far you want to take it that day.
One of my favorite exercises that I do at Barre3 is the Barre3 Burpee. Most people cringe when they hear the word, but I really don’t mind it whether it’s the Barre3 version or the standard version. At Barre3, you don’t wear shoes to work out, but you can wear sticky socks, so instead of jumping and popping your legs back into the plank/push up position that a burpee requires, Barre3 slows it down. Below are the five steps to doing a Barre3 burpee. Follow along with the photos in the Gallery below. It technically starts at the third photo in the gallery. Try these moves at home and if you can do it without a problem, then you’re ready for Barre3! If this is still a bit challenging, no sweat! You’re still ready for Barre3 because practice makes perfect.
Step 1: Standing in “mountain pose,” bring your arms straight up over your head and legs are at hip distance apart. For my yogis, this looks like “star pose.”
Step 2: You slap the floor as you go down into a deep squat position.
Step 3: Bring your right leg back.
Step 4: Then your left leg, so that you’re in a high plank position.
Step 5: Lastly you bring your feet back to the front one at a time to wear you started and stand up. Then you start from Step 1 and do it all over again!
